One Way
Mallory K. Bass

You look like a little boy;       when you come
holding a balloon;        I’m going to let it go.

a seal flapping;        his eyelashes—so long
to the shore;       my skin rises in hives

and then at once;      I want to scratch to the core
a bowling pin knocked over     my bloodbeat in your palm.

Mallory K. Bass is in her first year as a candidate for an MFA in Poetry at St. Mary’s College of California in Moraga, CA. She is a proud native of Mississippi, but currently lives in Oakland, CA with three other poets and her dog, Hoka.
