Matching Ribbons
Mike Seperack

Later when they asked why he did the things he did with the BB gun, the things he did with the
firecrackers, the things he did to her tires, her windshield, her cat, the things he did with the tuna, leaving it in her mailbox, the things he did to her garbage cans, her front lawn, her pool toys, her lawn ornaments and the things he did to her shed, he wanted to explain that it wasn’t his fault, he couldn’t help it, he had to do all of those things because of the way her shoes matched her nails matched the ribbons in her hair, but he didn’t have the words to begin and he knew that even if he somehow found the words to begin they never would have followed his story all the way to the end.

Mike Seperack lives in Syracuse, New York, and studies writing at the Downtown Writer’s Center of the Syracuse YMCA. His work has appeared recently in Sleet Magazine and Paper Darts.
